Generic Butterfly Knife from China, A Review

I got a cheap generic butterfly knife from a shop in Mid Valley of Chinese origin. Got it for about RM40. It measures 13 cm folded and 22.5 cm unfolded. The blade is 9 cm long. It comes standard with a canvas strap and belt loop.

The knife is secured using a locking bar located at the end. The handle is metal with wooden inserts located in the centre.

The knife blade is sharpen on one side. As the exact composition of the metal is unknown, based on the price paid, I do not expect the knife to be able to withstand excessive blows and keep its edge for a long time.

SOG FastHawk Tactical Tomahawk Axe with Sheath (F06PN-CP) - A Review

I got myself my first 'tomahawk'. Made by SOG, the FastHawk Tactical Tomahawk with reference number F06PN-CP has a length of 12.5" with a blade length of 2". Weighing in at 19 oz, the axe was purchased via Amazon for USD33.00.

The axe head is made out of 420 stainless steel with two holes to reduce the weight. It has a satin finish with the edge sharpen somewhat (it could have been sharper).

There is a checkered section at the T-junction. The pike end is also satin finished.

The axe head is secured to glass-reinforced nylon handle via two-head screws (see the image above). Note that the tang of the axe head is wider than the handle width. Below this point, a wide metal band is wrapped around the handle for additional safety.

At the end of the handle, a hole is provided for one to thread a lanyard. The brand is prominently stamped on the side of the handle.

For transport, a ballistic nylon sheath is provided with the package.

Conclusion: I suggest the all black version would be a better option. This axe is too shinny.

Wartech Buckshot Forest Hunting 8.75 in Fixed Blade Full Tang Cleaver Razor Knife with Sheath - A Review

This is a full tang cleaver. It has an overall length of 8.75" and used primary to chop or prepare food. I bought it purely because of its looks.

Reviews written by other owners seems to suggest the nylon sheath to be weak and breaks apart after a few weeks of use. I think I can see why. Due to the shape of the blade, one has to force the knife into the sheath with some pressure as the opening does not take into consideration the slightly wider girth of the front part of the blade.

Specifications

Overall Length: 8.75"
Blade Length: 4"
Steel: 3CR13 Stainless Steel
Sheath: Nylon
MSRP: USD19.95

Cold Steel 39FNSZ Double Agent II, Serrated Edge Blade - A Review

Cold Steel 39FNSZ Double Agent II, Serrated Edge Blade knife was designed by Zach Whitson. This knife has a clip point blade style. The Double Agent II is thin, flat and super light with a little over 3 ounces including sheath.

It is easy to conceal and very comfortable to wear. The most noticeable feature is the double ring handle design. Slip an index finger through the front ring nearest the blade and your pinky finger through the rear ring and close your fist to obtain a forward grip and vice versa for a reverse grip. The twin rings will always prevent your hand from sliding forward on the razor sharp edge

The sheath is made out of hard plastic and friction fit over the knife for a secure carry. As added safety, a large circular tab locks into the front ring nearest the blade (see the picture above). To disengage and pull the knife out, depress the circular tab (it is textured) first. Below is the reverse view and you can see how the circular tab locks into place by using a combination of flat spring (part of the sheath) as well as its shape (domed).

Specifications:

Overall length: 7 7/8"
Blade length: 3"
Handle length: 4 7/8" with Grivory grip
Weight: 2.40 oz
Steel: Japanese AUS 8A stainless
Sheath: Secure-Ex neck sheath with chain
MSRP: USD31.70 (via Amazon)

KA-BAR 1481 TDI Law Enforcement Serrated Edge Knife - Non-intrusive & Concealable, A Review

The KA-BAR 1481 TDI Law Enforcement Serrated Edge Knife is an excellent knife as an EDC. Small and compact, the angled handle allows it to be used almost naturally without the need to bend your wrist.

Coupled with the hard plastic friction sheath with metal belt clip, the whole package is small and can be attached almost anywhere - non-intrusive & concealable.

The design comes also with a straight edge but I decided to go for the serrated edge model as I don't want the hassle of sharpening the knife. The purpose I wanted the knife is so that I can cut rope as well as go through cardboard (unboxing). Due to the shape of the handle, it would be difficult to use if you need to prep food.

I purchase the watch via Amazon for USD35.00.

Specifications

  • Textured Zytel handle
  • 5.63" overall length
  • Non-reflective black powder coated 2.31" AUS 8A stainless steel serrated blade
  • Hard plastic friction sheath with a metal belt clip
