Rothco Genuine British Commando Knife with Leg Sheath - A Piece of History, A Review

The Fairbairn–Sykes fighting knife is a double-edged fighting knife resembling a dagger or poignard with a foil grip developed by William Ewart Fairbairn and Eric Anthony Sykes in Shanghai based on concepts which the two men initiated before World War II while serving on the Shanghai Municipal Police in China. I got an opportunity to get an example in my collection from Rothco.

I got it via Amazon for USD83.76. Made out of stainless steel and manufactured in in Sheffield, England. The company that makes it is the R & R Sheffield Cutlery. The length of the knife is 11.5" or 29.2 cm and the blade is 6.75" or 17.15 cm.The handle is brass with a small pommel nut. This knife is the genuine deal and is used by the Royal Marine Commandos.

The knife is painted black and the leather cover is a leg sheath. The blade is proof marked from an actual British company that still makes it in Sheffield, England. The proof mark reads, "J. Nowill & Sons, Sheffield, England".  It also has two other marks: an arrowhead and what looks like an "H" inside a diamond.

I am happy to get a genuine Fairbairn–Sykes fighting knife. This knife has a heavy handle as it is made of brass. The sides of the knife also are sharp. A real piece of knife history in the collection.

KA-BAR Straight Edge Short Knife with Leather Sheath in Black - A Great Utility Knife, A Review

I bought my first KA-BAR. The perfectly sized fixed blade knife, the Short Ka-Bar performs as well as the larger original, but is a more practical size for camping, carrying and general utility. The American legend is fitted with an oval-shaped Kraton G thermoplastic elastomer handle.

I got it via Amazon for USD50.61.

This watch is made in the USA with a blade length of 5.25"or 13.34 cm. Overall length is 9.25" or 23.50 cm. Coated black for rust protection.

The steel is 1095 Cro-Van steel which is a high carbon steel. The sheath is real leather and made in Mexico.

This is a brilliant knife. Although it is not a full-size KA-BAR knife, the smaller size is more practical in my view and experience. It is a lighter and easier to carry knife. As a utility knife, it is great.

Wartech H-4731 Biohazard 13" Overall Zombie Black Blade with Neon Green Handle, A Review

The Wartech H-4731 Biohazard Zombie is a 13" hunting knife made out of 440 stainless steel and plastic contoured handle. It is a full tang knife with the knife surface blacked out while the plastic contoured handle is painted with luminous green. The package also includes a nylon sheath.

Bought it through Amazon for a price of USD10.88 (MYR xx) plus an additional courier and import charges of USD30.74 (MYR xx). I opted using DHL despite it being 3 times more expensive than the knife as I don't want the hassle of dealing with customs etc. Within 4 days of making the order, I got it on my desk without any problems.

For the price I paid, there is not much negative that I can find with the knife apart from two. The first is the material used for the handle. It appears from touch and eyeballing it that the handle is made out of simple plastic. Although it has be ergonomically designed, it will be very slippery when wet. The second is the nylon sheath. The serrated edge of the knife catches on the inside of the sheath and it get stuck sometimes. I suspect the sheath is a bit too tight for the knife.

The knife is sharp straight from the box. The black paint is not expected to cling to the metal surface strongly hence the blade would look rather scratchy once used. The blade is nice and straight with a pointed tip.

Overall I am satisfied.
